Common Domestic Circuit Faults (show)
- Open Circuit: Disconnected/broken conductor (L, N, or E). Dead at all or some points.
- Short Circuit: L–N or L–E contact. Usually trips breaker instantly.
- Earth Leakage: Damaged insulation, water ingress, or faulty appliances causing RCD trip.
- Ring Not Continuous: “Broken ring” in L, N or E. Overheating risk; check continuity at board.
- High Resistance Joints: Loose terminals or damaged sockets. Flickering lights or intermittent faults.
- Faulty MCB/RCD: Will not reset or trips under light load; test with IR and swap to confirm.
- Crossed Neutrals or Earths: Common on split load boards or poor wiring alterations.
- Overload: Excessive load for cable/breaker size, especially on radial socket circuits.
- Appliance Fault: Defective plug-in/fixed loads. Unplug/test individually.
